What is a mole?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A mole is the amount of material in 6 x 10^23 molecules of it. A mole is the formula weight in grams, so that water H2O (2 + 16 atomic wt units) would have that many molecules in 18 grams.

Parth (parthkohli):

Just like a dozen is 12 of something, a mole is the Avogadro Number of that thing. It happens that if something has a mass of n atomic mass units, then a mole of that would have a mass of n grams.
