What would happen when carbon dioxide gas is bubbled through a solution of lithium hydroxide?
LiOH + CO2 --> Li2CO3 + H2O Balance... 2LiOH (aq) + CO2 (g) --> Li2CO3 (aq) + H2O (l) lithium carbonate and water will be made....
Could you explain why Lithium Carbonate is created along with water? I thought it was double replacement but I was wrong.
it is a double displacement reaction, the thing is when you absorb carbon dioxide gas in the solution of lithium hydroxide, lithium reacts with CO2 and synthesises into Li2CO3 producing a more complex product. basically lithium will detach from OH and attach with CO2 and the rest is just water.
The oxygen from the hydroxide is reacting with the CO2, as an ion causing it to become a carbonate. This is a reaction of non metal oxides.
