Would the norm be the same as the magnitude of a complex number?

Basically, yep.
Nopers. The norm of \(a + bi\) is \(a^2 + b^2\) while the magnitude is the square root of the norm.
so is it the same or no

I have seen the norm of a complex number a + bi defined as a^2 + b^2, but more often, the norm is defined as the same as the magnitude of a complex number, i.e. \( \sqrt{a^2+b^2}\) see wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norm_(mathematics)#Euclidean_norm_of_a_complex_number or wolfram http://mathworld.wolfram.com/ComplexModulus.html
