Help please... State the vertical asymptote of the rational function. f(x) = ((x-7)(x+4))/(x^2-4) options: a. x = 2, x = -2 b. None c. x = 7, x = -4 d. x = -7, x = 4

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

if you were to multiply the numerator..... since it has 2 factors... what degree of a polynomial would it be you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The vertical asymptotes are given by the zeros of the denominator in the rational function. Hence, look for the zeros of \[x^2-4=0\]

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

oh ahemm... I read "oblique" hmm, pretty sure that's what it said.. anyhow
