Add electron dots and charges as necessary to show the reaction of calcium and oxygen to form an ionic compound. Nuetral Atoms--> Ions Ca+0-->Ca+0

OpenStudy (aaronq):

Ca loses 2 electrons to achieve a noble gas electronic configuration, O gains 2 e to also have a noble gas config.

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Can you do it based on what he said?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not really

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Well Ca loses 2 electrons so from Ca it becomes \[Ca ^{2+}+2e ^{-}\] O gains 2 electrons \[O+2e ^{-}\] to become \[O ^{2-}\] Now, can you write that in the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Um

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

So from neutral atoms to ions. I showed you what ions they become :) Just put them on the right side of the equation. I'm not sure what electron dots are though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The lewis dot structure. It's the number of valence electrons that atom has.

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Ah, well, you have the neutral atoms and we gave you the ions. You should be able to do it now.
