Identify the precipitate (if any) that forms when KOH and Cu(NO3)2 are mixed.

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Hello and welcome OpenStudy. Can you determine if a reaction will occur? Hint: look at electronegativity.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cu(OH)2 ?? blue colored ppt??

OpenStudy (aaronq):

you wouldn't be able to predict the products based on electronegativity :S you would just have to carry out a hypothetical double-displacement reaction and assess (with a solubility table) whether or not the products are soluble.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@rvanclev what you'd do is swap the anions -ve ions between KOH and Cu(NO3)2. The anions are OH- ans NO3-.

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

I was thinking of double displacement. I just didn't know how to hint it to them. Thanks @aaronq
