I am lost :( Calculate the mass of AlCl3 produced from 10g of Al? Can someone please help me, thanks :)

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Hello and welcome to OpenStudy. What reaction is this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

combined?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

I mean, there should be an equation that comes with it. Or at least info that tells you what happens.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you mean the balanced equation, sorry I just find this all confusing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question I wrote is exactly what was asked in the text.

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Hmm I think something is missing. Anyway, can you find the number of mole of 10g of Al? These should help: http://erhs.rcsnc.org/UserFiles/Servers/Server_4766394/Image/Donna%20Scofield/mole%20conversion%20map.bmp http://www.ptable.com/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.37 mol

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

And you want the mass of AlCl3 so reverse that process but make sure you use the molar mass of the whole molecule

OpenStudy (anonymous):

136.5??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops 133.5

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Yup. Multiply those and you have your answer. This is assuming you have excess Cl. Do take time to read our CoC: http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct and enjoy your stay. If you are satisfied with this question and my response, you can give me a medal and close the question. See you around :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much, you make it sound so easy xoxo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I give a medal?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

You already have a while ago haha. You're very welcome. :)
