Suppose you wanted to decrease the pH of a solution. What could you add to the solution to decrease the pH? Support your prediction.

Adding acid will decrease the ph like HCl,H2SO4 etc

pH*

pH of a solution refers to the free hydrogen ion concentration in the solution. As sarah786 said we can reduce the pH by adding an acid. As the pH decreases thee is an increase in hydrogen ion concentration. When i add an acid say HCl it dissociates in the solution to H+ and Cl- , thus the H+ released by the dissociated acid further adds H+ to the already existing H+ ions bringing about a decrease in pH.
