how to solve for friction force if the ladder is 40deg with the horizontal surface.. and the ladder weighs 5ON. coefficient of friction is 0.2..

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Use "Net force = 0" and "Net torque = 0"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The normal force would be the mg and cos40. am i right?

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

If there is no friction with the wall, the normal force at the foot of the ladder would be equal to mg, so that the vertical net force is zero.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if theres a friction on the wall

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Use torque about top or bottom end of the ladder.

the question really goes like this.. the bottom end of the ladder rest on a rough ground with 0.2 as coefficient that makes 65 w/ the horizontal. (ladder rest on a branch of a tree)
