What is the oxidation number of B in H3BO3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

+3.... O is always -2 and there is 3 of them so that equals -6. H is always +1 and there are 3 of them so it equals +3. The compound has no charge on it which means it is neutral so the total of the oxidation numbers has to be 0. Therefore -6 + 3 + x =0. B is x, which equals 3
