Which of the following is an example of an endothermic process? a. a chocolate bar melting in hot car b. a package of fruit freezing in a freezer c. burning gasoline in a combustion engine d. moisture forming on a glass of iced water

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

An endothermic reaction is one that absorbs energy

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

or process

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

So go through each process does it absorb energy or release energy?

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

the process that absorbs energy is your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c?

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

The burning of gasoline releases energy

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

With all chemical reactions a certain amount of energy needs to be supplied for them to occur, this is called activation energy.

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

So it is kind of like when you set gasoline on fire, you are providing enough energy for the gasoline molecules to react with the oxygen molecules. This reaction then chains off because the amount of energy it releases is enough to allow other gasoline molecules to react with oxygen etc
