find the z score for the standard normal distribution where P(z < +a) = 0.8980
Since the middle of the Standard Normal Distribution is 1/2 or 0.50000, you may be able to find 0.8980 - 0.5000 = 0.3980 shaded between this spot and the Mean.
uhm shouldn't it be 1-0.8980 = 0.102?
okay i am confused is it the first one or the second one
it is whatever the table in the back of the book gives ....
if you have a left hand table, then look for the number in the field that is closest to the given value in the problem. otherwise, use the inverse Normal function of a ti83
when i look at the z table and line them up the two numbers i get are 1.2 and 0.07
then add them :) tables are weird i admit
1.2 + .07 = 1.27 so the z score, assuming you have the right row, column is 1.27
1.27 is good
oh so you add it i was trying out how to do this math is not my strongest subject and statistics is even worse thank you
:) you are doing fine
no not really this class is so hard its a learning in progress
how do i put this into a problem
P(z < +a) = 0.8980 do i put the answer i got in-between the parentheses
i would just say: a = 1.27, if you have to explain how, then just tell what you did with the table.
ok thanks
youre welcome, good luck
