Three charges are arranged as shown. A,B,and H have charges of 5.00x10^-9, -6.00x10^-9, and 7.00x10^-9 C respectively. Find the magnitude and direction of the electrostatic force on charge B.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since there are two other charges that means there are two other forces on B and Fnet=F1+F2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and so we know the equation for electrostatic force is \[F=\frac{ KQq }{ r ^{2} }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

F(ab)=-5.6x10^-8 in -y direction F(H)=8.8x10^-8 in +x direction and F(H)=-8.13x10^-8 in -y direction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and if you want to find the final vector you can add the two y components then just use Pythagorean theorem to find the net force

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i got net force=1.62x10^-7 and theta=-57.3 by taking tan inverse of (added Y/X)
