The collision theory of reaction rates identifies three factors that determine the rate at which a given chemical reaction will take place. It is based on the simple idea that reactions occur as a result of collisions between atoms and molecules.

there are 6 factors which determines the reaction rate: 1)frequency 2)energy rate of reaction=no. of collisions per sec (frequency factor) * fractions of collisions with enough energy to react (energy factor)*fractions of collisions with the proper orientation(probability factor) 3)probability 4)surface area 5)activation energy 6)catalyasts
