what are the factors that effect solubility ?
@thomaster
you mean factors that \(\sf A\)ffect solubility?
yup
right, that would be temperature, pressure and nature of solvent (polarity)
can u pls elaborate on these 3 points ?
well for temperature it depends if the reaction is endo- or exothermic When the reaction is endothermic, it needs energy. The heat of the solvent is in this case used to absorb energy for the reaction. thus increasing the solubility. When the reaction is exothermic, it gives energy. If the amount of energy in the solvent is already high, it will decrease the solubility.
This only applies for solids dissolving in liquids by the way.
The effect of pressure is only affecting the solubility of gasses in liquids. If the pressure increases, the solubility of gasses will be increased as well.
thank you i get it now
And for nature of solvent: Substances with similar intermolecular attractive forces tend to be soluble in one another. For example: polar solutes are soluble in polar solvents.
cheerz :)
