I am trying to find the area of this triangle. The link below contains an image of the triangle as well as the sides. http://imgur.com/hKz9GFu
I've noticed right away that there are several triangles in this composite illustration. Triangles LQP and LMN are similar, correct? Given that they're similar, we can use that fact to determine the length of line segment LS. Have you considered doing that? And does this suggestion make sense in terms of finding the area of triangle LMN?
The problem didn't say that the triangles in the triangle are similar so I don't know.
the line QP will make two SIMILAR triangles, so you could just find the segment LS by usign proportion or ratios, that is|dw:1392754207011:dw|
once you find LS segment, you'd have the "altitude" and thus should be able to get the area of the triangle
