@whpalmer4 please help

@Data_LG2 help me please!!

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

"Located ____ the distance" what goes in the blank? Please proof-read your questions when posting!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay sorry

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

so, what goes in the blank?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its supposed to read, located 1/5 the distance

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Okay. To find the distance 1/5 of the way along the line from X to Z, calculate the difference in x values of Z - X, multiply that by 1/5, and add it to the x value of X. Repeat for the y values. What do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got -4

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Hmm. \[(5-(-6)) * \frac{1}{5} + (-6) =4\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh whoops i redid it and got -3.8

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

That's what I get.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awesome thank you!!

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Do you understand why this works?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes i do

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

so if I told you to find the point that divided the line in a 1:3 ratio, how would you do that?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):
