Recall that ionic compounds have higher melting and boiling points compared to organic compounds.

This has to do with colligative properties, which are independent of the nature of the solute. The more particles (e.g. ions, molecules) present (signified by the van't hoff constant, \(i\)), the higher the deviation from the normal boiling temperature
