the trick here is to find an equivalent expression in tan theta alone for tan (2 theta). Hint: look up "double angle formula." Would you be willing to look for the proper formula for tan (2*theta)?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yeah it is: 2tanΘ/ (1-tan^2Θ)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i made that equal to right side. then what do i do?
OpenStudy (mathmale):
Your original eqn is tan (2 theta) + tan (theta) = 0.
Replace tan (2 theta) with the double angle formula that you've just typed in.
Note that the resulting equation will be in tan (theta) only; your tan (2 theta) will have disappeared.
Please show me (type in) what you have after this substitution.

sorry thats what i meant
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so then would you make them same denominator?
OpenStudy (mathmale):
I certainly would. Would you care to try that, please?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok yea
