the foci are (4,0) and (-2,0). the slopes of the asymptotes are +_ 4. Write the equation of the hyperbola in standard form.

@Mertsj

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Find the center...it is half way between the asymptotes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(1,0)

OpenStudy (mertsj):

And the asymptotes are y = + - (b/a)x So since the slope is 4, you can find b and a or at least the reduced form of the ratio.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I meant to say that the center is half way between the foci but you got it anyway.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i knew what you ment. it is where the asymptotes cross too

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Yes.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So did you find a and b?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no im still not quite sure how to do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait would b=4 and a=1?
