HELP! strong acids and weak acids differ in proton dissociation, how does this lead to equilibrium??
strong acids fully dissociate, meaning a very high equilibrium constant, this means that the backward reaction is highly unfavourable and wont occur. For weak acids, the dissociation is small, small \(K_{eq}\), so the backward reaction does occur often hence there is a dynamic equilibrium.
thanks!!
no problem, dude
do you know steps that can be taken to minimize this affect?
hmm to drive the reaction forward?
think of Le Chatelier's principles
im not sure this is the question I have:describe the difference in proton dissociation behavior between strong and week acids, and how this difference leads to equilibrium. Also describe what steps can be taken to minimize this effect
for le chatliers: to go forward, you would increase the reactants right?
@aaronq
yeah you can increase [reactants] or remove products as they are formed, or exploit another parameter (e.g. if exothermic, raise temp)
ok thanks man!
no probs !
