NaOh + (NH4)3PO4 -> Na3Po4 + H2O + NH3 Balance The Equation Step By Step

OpenStudy (sunnnystrong):

NaOH + (NH4)3PO4 = Na3PO4 + H2O +NH3 Check Na, you have 1 on the left hand side and 3 on the right hand side so add a 3 in front of the NaOH 3NaOH + (NH4)3PO4 = Na3PO4 + H2O +NH3 I'd check P next as it's only in one compound on both sides and you have 1 P on each side so it's balanced. 3NaOH + (NH4)3PO4 = Na3PO4 + H2O +NH3 Check N next. You have 3N in the (NH4)3PO4 and only 1 N in the NH3 so we need a 3 in front of the NH3 3NaOH + (NH4)3PO4 = Na3PO4 + H2O + 3NH3 Check O and H together as they are in multiple compounds Left hand side You have 7 oxygen and 15 hydrogen On the right hand side You have 5 oxygen and 11 hydrogen. You are missing 2 oxygen and 4 hydrogen which can be nicely taken care of by adding a 3 in front of the H2O (6 H and 3 O which is 4 extra H and 2 extra O to the 2 H and one O already there) 3NaOH + (NH4)3PO4 = Na3PO4 + 3H2O + 3NH3 Do a final check of each element is always a good idea.
