If a red blood cell is placed in a solution that has a greater solute concentration than the cell's interior, what will most likely occur? A The cell will shrink as water molecules move out of it. B The cell will swell as water molecules move into it. C The cell will shrink as solutes move out of it. D The cell will shrink as solutes move into it.

help me pls

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Naturally, the ions are transported towards lower concentration, therefore in this case it would go into the cell, so I'm thinking it should be B.

Students carried out an experiment in which a semipermeable dialysis bag represented a cell membrane. They filled the bag with a 10% starch solution and measured its mass. Then, they placed the bag of starch solution in a large beaker of distilled water. After one hour, students wiped the dialysis bag dry and measured the mass again. Which statement describes what most likely happened? A Its mass decreased, because starch flowed out of the bag. B Its mass increased, because water molecules flowed into the bag. C Its mass did not change, because water and starch did not flow through the bag. D Its mass did not change, because starch and water reached equilibrium.

@Iseulde your logic is correct, but the answer you gave is the reverse of what you said.

@Niniguma post only 1 question per thread.

I do really need help from u guys

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but salt keeps water in the tissues, as far as I remember...

OpenStudy (aaronq):

right, but you placed a cell in a solution with a higher solute concentration.|dw:1393706579616:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep, true :) the answer to the second question must conform to the same logic then.

A RIGHT
