How can I write an equation given: tangent function, period=360, phase shift= 0 and a vertical displacement= -6

Original: y = tan x Original period is 180. You want 360. So make it y = tan (x/2). No phase shift: all right. Vertical disp = -6. Your equation: \[\tan (\frac{ x }{ 2 }) - 6\]

I don't get it, why did you put the (x/2) could you explain me, please? :-(

Putting x/2 in place of x effectively expands the graph horizontally by a factor of 2. This is because the function now needs TWICE as much x to get the same input.
