Using what you know about phase changes, why does steam at 100°C produce a more harmful burn than boiling water? @Cpt.Sparz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A) water is more conductive than steam. so causes more heating. B) steam has 5.4 times more energy, for the same weight than water. When water reaches 100 celsius, it turns into steam. Water isn't liquid at 100c, so it would have to be a lower temperature to retain its liquid form. So basically, steam causes more severe burns because it's hotter than water, which has to be cooler in order to be water.
