A solution in which the [H+] is 1.0 × 10–4 mol/L is said to be A. acidic. B. basic. C. neutral. D. none of the above
Well, do you know how to find pH?
given acid concentration
I know how to get that but when I look at my notes it tells me that the answer is supposed to be basic... and it's wrong. my notes say "Acidic solution – a solution in which [H+] is greater than [OH-] → greater than 1 * 10-7M Basic solution – one in which [H+] is less than [OH-] → less than 1 * 10-7M" which is why I'm confused.
pH = -log[H\(^+\)] pH = 7 is neutral pH < 7 is acidic pH > 7 is basic
ok so when I did that it gave me a 4...so the answer would be acidic? I'm not the best at chemistry...:/
Look at what I wrote. and look at the pH scale.
oh this is so confusing. basic is not the answer I already tried that.
\(\sf \color{red}{pH < 7}\) what does that say up there? Does a pH < 7 say it is basic?
-log(1.0 × 10–4) = 4...or am I doing this wrong?
Is 4 > 7 or is 4 < 7????????
4 < 7 so acidic would be the answer.
YES!
pH of your solution or whatever is 4, therefore, it is considered to be acidic, not basic. Like i said above, anything GREATER than 7 is basic. Anything LESS is acidic.
sorry... my head is slow today... not enough coffee... thanks
