What is the expansion of octet for some compounds of P and S?

in the third period and below elements can form compounds that exceed the octet rule, having greater than 8 electrons. for eg: Phosphorus Pentachloride-- Phosphorus pentachloride contains a phosphorus atom bonded to five chlorine atoms, placing ten electrons around phosphorus and violating the octet rule.
