read carefully. suppose, \[\large a^{m}=p\]..............................1) \[\large a^{n}=q\]...............................2) now \[\large a^{m}*a^{n}=a^{m+n}=pq\] now by log method, taking log base a on both sides in 1) and 2), \[\large m=\log_{a}p\] \[\large n=\log_{a}q\] \[\large m+n=\log_{a}p+\log_{a}q\] In the last step we can see that on adding log we are just adding exponents of the no. represented by those log.

so another way it can be put is if we have to add log10(x) + log10(y) we would only be in reality adding the x and y values, and then dividing them by 10, right?
