an airplane flies 200 km east from city a to city b then 200 km south from city b to city c and finally 100 km northwest to city d how far is it from city a to city ? in what direction must the airplane head to return directly to city a from city d

OpenStudy (dqswag):

whats the answer

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

|dw:1394763904716:dw| so you have a right triangle...you can use the 2 side lengths (200 and 200) to solve for what the hypotenuse would be... Then you would subtract 100 from that number since 100km of it would be from city C to D So that hypotenuse - 100 would be your answer

what the true answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what the final or solution?

OpenStudy (issy14):

Use pythagorean theorem h= the square toot of 200^2 + 200^2. = 282.84Km. then substract 100km = 182.84 direction: To return from city d to city a it has to keep going west of north. or Northwest, since its a 45 angle.

OpenStudy (issy14):

square root* sorry. not toot
