OpenStudy (dqswag):

Which is true about each element in a period or horizontal row of the periodic table?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first of all, all the elements in a period have the same number of shells. as we go across a period the number of valence electron increases as the atomic number also increases. Since the number of protons increases (atomic number) a larger force keeps the electrons in orbit. Thus, these elements do not tend to lose electrons as we move across a period. In short, across a period, the atomic size decreases and the electropositivity decreases as well.
