A typical phase change diagram is shown below. What are the correct names of the numbered stages (legs) of the phase diagram?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 - freezing, 2 - melting, 3 - boiling 1 - melting, 2 - condensation, 3 - evaporation 1 - solid, 2 - liquid, 3 - gas 1 - gas, 2 - liquid, 3 - solid

@HomeschoolGrad Help!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hint: Let's say you start with ice (a solid), what would happen to the ice as the temperature increases?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would melt!

@HomeschoolGrad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it the first option?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, the ice is a solid, what would the solid become?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

liquid?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then a gas?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I think so. In 1 you are heating a solid, in 2 you are heating a liquid, and in 3 you are heating a gass.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awesome thank you!
