A monatomic ion with a charge of -2 has an electronic configuration of 1s22s22p6.

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

It might be Oxygen, but I'm really not sure b/c I don't know if monatomic O ion exists by itself. Or maybe I'm just thinking too hard. D:

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

I mainly think O b/c a neutral Oxygen atom is 1s22s22p4, so adding those two electrons to the p orbital would make it stable.

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

Monoatmoic O ion is found in MgO aka magnesium oxide
