*checking my work* Conjugate base
Give the conjugate base for each of the following acids: a) HClO b) NH4+ C)HN3 d)HS- Is it: a) ClO- b) NH3 c) N3- d) S^2-
@abb0t @aaronq
Also, Give the conjugate base for each of the following acids: a) HNO3 b) HCOOH c) C6H5COOH d) CH3NH3+ Is it: a) NO3- b) COOH- C) C6H5COO- d) CH3NH2-?
Most look good to me from what I know on this. The only one I see is (d) on the second set. You went from CH3NH3+ to a CH3NH2- , which is 2 charges taken off +1-2=-1 for one hydrogen omitted
Thank you. So it should be CH3NH2+?
I ment CH3NH2^-1
I mean, it started positive 1. CH3NH3+. You correctly omitted the H for CH3NH2, but you are supposed to go from +1 to 0 charge (+1, one proton removed, to +1-1 =0) . CH3NH2
Oh ok I got you. Thanks so much.
Can you check one more for me?
I will open a new ? so I can give you another medal.
Sure. Sorry, just one more I should point out. I think HCOO- would be the correct way to write that base rather than COOH-. The former is written more like other acids as the latter would be something slightly different (carboxylic group).
Ok. Will correct that. Thanks so much.
huh?
