The way I see it, divu.mkr is right. Impulse is the change in momentum before and after the collision (for this question).

OpenStudy (theeric):

So, you'll want to know the velocity when it hits, to find its momentum then. And you'll want then see how that differs from the momentum after the collision (with 4.0 m/s).
