Can someone help me with a Trig question please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mccheese420 @aspenquincey12 you guys still there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ranga please help me

OpenStudy (ranga):

For (1), put t = 0 and evaluate H(t).

OpenStudy (ranga):

For part 2) you need to find the period of the cosine function. For the general cosine (or sine) function: Acos(Bt + C) + D, the period is 2pi / B

OpenStudy (ranga):

For part 3), the lowest value of a cosine function is -1. Replace cos(pi/14)t with -1 in the H(t) equation to find the lowest value of H(t).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ranga thank you so much! I will do as you say and update you on my progress in a few minutes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For part 1, am I supposed to get H(0)=31?

OpenStudy (ranga):

When t = 0, cos(pi/14)t becomes cos(0) which is 1. H(0) = 25 * 1 + 31 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

56

OpenStudy (ranga):

Yes. 56 feet.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so she is at 56 feet before the ride begins. For Part 2, the period is 2pi/1 which is just 2pi right?

OpenStudy (ranga):

Period = 2pi / (coefficient of t) = 2pi / (pi / 14) = 2pi * 14 / pi = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

28?

OpenStudy (ranga):

For Acos(Bt + C) + D, the period is 2pi/B where B is the coefficient of t.

OpenStudy (ranga):

Yes, 28 seconds.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it takes 28 seconds to make one revolution?

OpenStudy (ranga):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And for part 3, should it be H(28)=25(-1)(28)+31?

OpenStudy (ranga):

No. The maximum value of a cosine function is +1. The minimum value of a cosine function is -1. Replace the ENTIRE cos(pi/14)t with -1 (No need to put any value for t.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok. So H(t)=25(-1)+31

OpenStudy (ranga):

yes. simplify.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6?

OpenStudy (ranga):

Yes, 6 feet is the answer to part 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much. Would you be able to guide me through some more if you have the time?

OpenStudy (ranga):

I can perhaps do one more but please post it as a separate question and close this one out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem
