Write a balanced equation for the reaction of Mg with HCl.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Mg\(^{2+}\) + HCl \(\rightarrow\) MgCl + H\(_2\) now, balance it.

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

I don't think the 2+ is required

OpenStudy (aaronq):

the reaction would actually not proceed with \(Mg^{2+}\) because there are no electrons to reduce the protons.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mg + 2HCl ----> MgCl2 + H2

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

Mg is magnesium metal, Mg2+ are magnesium ions in solution
