explain the following:- i) CH3COOH (acetic acid) is a weak acid. ii) Propene undergoes addition reaction. iii) The gas stove has inlets for air. iv) Unsaturated hydrocarbons burn with yellow sooty flame.

mathslover (mathslover):

i) \(CH_3 COOH\) (acetic acid) is a weak acid as it partially dissociates itself into ions in water. \(\mathsf{CH_3 COOH + H_2 O \rightarrow CH_3 COO ^{-} + H_3 O ^{+} }\) The ions \(CH_3 COO ^{-}\) and \(H_3 O ^{+}\) are not completely formed as were used to form \(CH_3 COOH\)

mathslover (mathslover):

The weakness of acetic acid can also be explained through the comparatively higher pH value then the other strong acids. ii) Only Unsaturated Carbon Compounds undergo Addition Reaction : Since, Propene is also an unsaturated hydrocarbon, so it will undergo Addition Reaction. iii) The combustion of the gas requires sufficient amount of Oxygen for complete combustion. So, the gas stove has inlets for air. iv) Unsaturated Hydrocarbons burn with yellow sooty because of incomplete combustion which may be explained on the basis of structure of an unsaturated hydrocarbon as well as the absence of sufficient amount fo Oxygen. I hope, it helped! let me know if you have any doubts left.
