a Bronsead-lowery) acid base definition is when you donate a proton or accept a proton. for bronstead lowry acid- donate proton base- receive proton A lewis base is when you donate an electron or receive an electron. For lewis acid- receive electron base- donate electron

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

An Arrhenius base increases the OH- ion concentration when added to water. NaOH is such a base. The others are not. A Brønsted-Lowry base is one that can accept a proton. I'm not convinced NH3 is such a base, but I'm not a chem geek. NH3 is a Lewis base (donates a pair of electrons to a Lewis acid). I question whether Br- is a Lewis base, but don't know for sure.
