OpenStudy (gebooors):

Ionic compounds have usually high melting point. Between ions there are electromagnetic attractive force. Strength of the force It depends two things: charge of ions and size of ions. Strength of the force is inversely proportional to distance between charges. Because Mg2+ and F- - ions are relatively small, ions can be close together and force is greater compared e.g. CaCl2
