What is the gram-molecular mass of a compound if 5 moles of the compound has a mass of 100 grams?

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

What units are molecular mass/molar mass in?

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Noooo, why did you run away. I'm right here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I really don't know what your asking

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Remember when you found the molecular mass of O2, do you know what units those are in?

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Units are like meters, feet, pounds, etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh lol grams

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Nope. Try Again. It has grams in it. The numbers on the Periodic Table tell how many grams per what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mole ? Lol I'm sorry I don't know..

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

There ya go! You can do it! So, going back to your last problem, the molar mass of O2 was 32 GRAMS PER MOL! Also written as 32 g/mol.

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

So, with that in mind, this current problem gives you the mass and a certain amount of moles for a compound. What can you do to find the molecular mass/molar mass, which is in grams per mole?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Um ... divide ?

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

YES EYSYYYESYSYEYES. Yes. You're blowing this problem out of the water right now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Omg yay ! But what I don't get is what my teacher does she makes some kind of chart & I don't know.

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

A chart? No idea. I like to "teach" using units. I wish they taught this in schools. Using units is a great way to figure out a problem.

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Like, you know molecular mass is in grams/mol, so you know you would need to divide a mass by moles to get your answers.

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Maybe a chart explains it easier for high schoolers or something.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I guess for some of us it doesn't /: I'm failing chemistry because of this.

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

As I said, this is literally the easiest part of chemistry unfortunately. Converting between mass, moles, and molecular mass is important for future concepts. But ya know now! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Eh .. still getting there let me try more questions on my own if I don't get it I'll ask again , thanks a lot

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know if this was answered. But I think it would just be a molar mass of 20g. The reason being; 5/100. 1 mole is 6.022 * 10^23 atoms of that molecules. The molar mass is the same as the number right under the the letters in the periodic table. Molar mass is in
