What type of solid materials are typically hard, have high melting points and poor electrical conductivities?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The choices are I. Ionic II. Metallic III. Covalent-network

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the answer is II and III, but I don't have access to an answer key and so I was wondering if someone could confirm either way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i believe it's Ionic and covalent....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know if that helps at all >.< it really depends on the information given...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, yes, the answer is ionic and covalent, I got messed up because I missed the "poor electrical conductivity" part.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I researched it for you, I believe the answer is Ionic. Take a look at this link, it explains it well. on the diagram it shows in more detail how an ionic solid hard, has a high melting point, and is NOT a good conductor unless it's been melted (hope this helped you)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OR you could solve it! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Unfortunately the choices are: A. I and II only B. I and III only C. II and III only D. I, II and III

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it's likely I and III

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh!! well then i say 1 and 3 given the problem.
