A curling stone thrown by the skip takes 4.8s to travel 60m. The stone collides with another stone. The collision is a glancing one. If the second stone is deflected 25 degrees and travels 1.5m/s, calculate the angle of deflection of the first stone after the collision. (conservation of linear momentum in two dimensions is the unit we're doing)
i think its a question of conservation of momentum.
First calculate original speed of moving stone. It has momentum p = mv in one direction. Masses of stones are same. After collision, you have to share speed of first stone in two Components which are perpendicular to each other. Use sine and cosine. In perpendicular direction, original momentum was zero. In original direction, sum of the momentum s of stones Should be equal as original momentum.
