OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

If HA is a stronger acid than HX, which conjugate base (A- or X-) has a larger Kb value?

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

@AccessDenied i will stop asking today after this. :)

OpenStudy (accessdenied):

So here's what I am thinking about. "Strong" acids have a strong tendency to donate protons (Hydrogen). So it seems like the conjugate base for the strong acid wanted more strongly to be a base, so it is actually less wanting to gain a proton again. Kb is in a sense the strength of the base, so the weaker acid would have to produce the stronger base.

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Yes. At first I thought the opposite of what you posted, but after reading up on it somewhere and using logic as you I agree. Thanks.

OpenStudy (accessdenied):

Glad to help! And yes, I had looked it up just to confirm my suspicion as well.
