how you could distinguish chemically between NaBr and Na2CO3

OpenStudy (aravindg):

You could do the carbonate test. Only Na2CO3 will show it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

owh.... ok.. i will try it.. thank u very much!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if i test it with AgNO3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then NaBr will show the reaction , the product will be AgBr. But Na2CO3 donot give this reaction

OpenStudy (aaronq):

I don't know much AgNO3 you have laying around, it's not cheap stuff. \(Na_2CO_3\) is the conjugate base of \(H_2CO_3\), so you can titrate some cheap acid, like acetic acid. (this will require a pH meter or an indicator/litmus paper). NaBr is just a salt, and it wont do much if you mix it with acetic acid.
