Help finding the volume of a pyramid.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Pyramid A is a square pyramid with a base side length of 14 inches and a height of 6 inches. Pyramid B has a volume of 3136 cubic inches. How many times bigger is the volume of pyramid B than pyramid A? Give your answer as a percent. Provide an explanation and proof for your answer to receive full credit. ▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁ So, we would find the volume of the first pyramid, then divide it by the second pyramid's volume?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

\[v = a^2\frac{ h }{ 3 }\]

OpenStudy (phi):

find the vol of A and divide that into 3136 vol = ⅓ area of base times height

OpenStudy (phi):

square pyramid with a base side length of 14 means its base is a square. area is 14*14

OpenStudy (phi):

⅓ of height = ⅓ of a height of 6 inches= 2

OpenStudy (compassionate):

v = (14 * 6)/3

OpenStudy (phi):

almost. you need the area of the base (not just 1 side)

OpenStudy (compassionate):

V = (14^2 * 6)/3

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Which would be 392

OpenStudy (anonymous):

may I help?

OpenStudy (phi):

if you have a calculator you can evaluate and divide into 3136 if you do it by hand it is easier to do this \[ \frac{3136}{14\cdot 14 \cdot 2}= \frac{1568}{14\cdot 14}= \frac{784}{7 \cdot 2 \cdot 7}= \frac{392}{7\cdot 7} = \frac{56}{7}= 8 \]

a pyramid with cube base with adges measure 25 centimeters and has perpendicular of 0.1 meters, calculate total volume of the structure in litres I assume you mean a square base. 2.0833 litres. If this is homework, be sure to show your work.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Alright. So now it's asking us to put it in a percent. We would do that by moving the decimal place two points to the right. 800.00%, right?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, 800%

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Thank you, @phi , I appreciate it.

OpenStudy (phi):

yw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good thesis phi so I medal you.
