What is the easiest way to balance chemistry equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the easiest way I do this is by writing out how much of each element i have. e.g. ___ SnO2 + ___ H2 → ___ Sn + ___ H2O? Reactant= Sn=1 O=2 H=2 Product= Sn=1 H=2 O=1 Sn = no coefficient because they are equal on both sides and Oxygen is attached so that=0 too. H= a coefficient of 2 because there are two on both sides of the eqaution. Sn on the product side =0 and H2O = coefficient of 2 on the reactant side there is two and on the product side there is 1. put 2 o make it equal. Now you're done! Hope this helps! SnO2 + 2 H2 → Sn + 2 H2O

Make a chart, divide it in half, and make sure that it lists exact # of reactant atoms and products on each side
