OpenStudy (vshiroky):

How many subshells are there in the n = 4 principal shell?

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

It's 4 right @iPwnBunnies

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Some of them I just need to double check.... others I may need actual help on haha

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Yes, because the quantum number L goes from 0 to (n-1).

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

And L determines the subshells, dangit I can't remember what it's actually called.

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Angular momentum quantum number, yeah.

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Thank you.

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Which of the following atoms has the least metallic character? A.Na B.Cs C.Li D.Rb E.K

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

That is Cs?

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Metallic character increase down the groups, and decreases across the periods (b/c nonmetals are on the right side.)

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

So basically, whichever element is in the more top-right of the periodic table would be the LEAST metallic.

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

So Li?

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

...No, Lithium is pretty metallic...because it's a metal. Cmon dude. Don't you have a periodic table?

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

I thought I was correct with Cs.. I'm looking at the table

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Was I wrong with Cs?

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Idk, I don't have a periodic table with me right now.

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Oh man, I'm stupid. Didn't realize these were all alkali metals. Yes, Lithium is the least metallic out of all of those. It's higher on the periodic table, and in the group.

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Ok lol thank you
