Which of the following statements about the water molecule is TRUE? A.A water molecule has two dipole moments and they cancel each other. B.A water molecule is symmetrical and therefore is nonpolar. C.The electronegativities of hydrogen and oxygen are equal and therefore a water molecule is nonpolar. D.A water molecule is asymmetric and therefore is polar. E.none of the above D @iPwnBunnies

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

D is what I think lol

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Which compound listed below will dissolve in water? A.NH3 B.CCl4 C.SiO2 D.all of the compounds E.none of the compounds Answer: A?

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Sorry I posted 2

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

For the first one it is D. Had to think about it, I don't see water as asymmetric, but I think it is.

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Sweet.

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

For the second question...Looks like all of them can dissollves in water. Usually certain ionic compounds don't dissolve in water. Not sure about these covalent substances.

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Hmm ok

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Which of the following statements about Lewis structures is FALSE? A.A duet is a stable electron configuration for helium. B.A covalent bond occurs when electrons are shared. C.An octet is when an atom has 8 valence electrons. D.An ionic bond occurs when electrons are transferred. E.All of the above statements are true. E for this?

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

E looks good. Don't know why they put that ionic bond thing in there lol. I don't use Lewis structures for ionic compounds.
