An ideal gas undergoes an adiabatic process and does 25 joules of work on its environment. What is the change in internal energy? a.50 joules b. 25 joules c. 0 joules d. -25 joules
Hi! I'm just learning this stuff, too, but I'm pretty sure I know this one. Do you know what's special about an adiabatic process?
it occurs without heat or matter between its system and its surroundings ?
im thinking its d
Right! Without the exchange of matter or heat. So, let's think about the energy, since the question is about energy. There is no exchange of energy, remember. Now, the equation of total energy is \(E=Q+W\quad\) where \(Q\) is the heat added to the system and \(W\) is the work on the system. Since \(Q=0\), \(E=W\) Energy is equal to the work done on the system, which is opposite work done by the system.... So I agree! :)
thankyou
You're welcome. So it seems correct to you also?
yes
Cool :)
