In the experiment to estimate acid strength of a citrus fruit, why do we add some amount of water to the lime juice before titrating it? Also, why do we not include the volume of water added in calculations?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

you add the water in volumetric flask or what ?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

thinking of lime juice, it's got lots of tiny solid pieces in it, so you're effectively getting rid of the solids.

OpenStudy (gebooors):

Amount of substance of citric acid is not changed when water is Added. If you use pH-meter and determine equivalent point From titration curve, there is no need to know Volume of water. Onetime s it in necessary to add Water because there should be enough liquids for pH meter.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here, pH meter is not being used. Its a titration going on.
